Introducing you to Einstein and Ella, two of our Maine Coon visitors…
So, in a series of occasional biographies of some of our regular guests, we’ll start by introducing you to Einstein and Ella, two of our Maine Coon visitors…
First a bit about Maine Coons. The origins and heritage of Maine Coon cats aren’t really known, though what is known is that they originated in the US state of Maine, they’re one of the oldest natural breeds of cat in North America, and that they are possibly descendants of Norwegian Forest cats or Siberian Forest cats, maybe crossed with a Scandinavian cat.
They’re huge and affectionately known as ‘gentle giants. Males usually weigh anything between 5.9 kg and 8.2 kg, females between3.6 kg and 5.4 kg. They have long thick undercoats and a glossy waterproof top coat and can come in a range of over 60 different colours!
Carol, Einstein & Ella’s mum says, ‘Einstein and Ella relocated to the area from Switzerland last summer. They were born in June 2018 and are large, even by Maine Coon standards. According to our records, Einstein reached the weight of 8.5 kg when he was just 2.5 years old. I do remember his father being very large so it’s obviously in the genes! Einstein now weighs in at 9.5 kg, Ella at 7.8 kg. They are big cats with big paws, but don’t be deceived, they also have big personalities, are real softies and very friendly. They have just enjoyed their third visit to the Cat’s Whiskers, where they are accommodated in one of the largest pens looking out over the garden. They always love cuddles from the Cat’s Whiskers team”.
Thank you Carol – we love cuddling them too and look forward to seeing them again soon.
