Is your cat microchipped?
Just a gentle reminder to all our lovely customers that new legislation means that, from 10th June, all cats in England need to be microchipped and registered on a database by the time they’re 20 weeks old. The reasoning for this is to try to re-unite as many lost or stray cats with their owners as possible, and the legislation applies equally to indoor cats. If your feline friend isn’t chipped and you miss the June deadline, you’ll have 21 days to get it done or face a possible £500 fine. Once chipped, it’s your responsibility to make sure that your details are kept up-to-date on the appropriate database.
We’ll ask you at the time of booking if your cat is chipped and for their microchip number. But we want to stress that we’re not doing this in response to the legislation; it’s your decision whether you chip your cat or not and we won’t refuse any cat who isn’t chipped. The reason we ask is that if, for example, your cat did a Houdini and escaped (extremely unlikely given the double gate system), or if we had an emergency such as a fire and had to release our guests into the garden, we’ll stand a much better chance of re-uniting you with your furry friend if we have their chip number.
There may be circumstances when you don’t want to chip your cuddly companion – for example if they’re very elderly or unwell. Please let us know if that’s the case and we will of course respect your decision.
